Dutch Arrows
Go back to :ResourcesThis Page helps explain how to create Dutch Arrows which are great fun to play with and have contests on how far you can throw it with other explorers.
Equipment Needed: Stick, Sharp Knife, 2 Strips of Cardboard, String
1) Find a straight thin stick.
2) Shave off the bark.
3) Create a point on one end by using the knife.
4) Using the knife, create a cross section at the other end of the stick.
5) Put a slit in one of the cardboard pieces and slip it into the other piece of cardboard to create a cross.
6) Slide the cardboard into the cross you created at the top of the stick. (This is the flight)
7) Cut a notch just below the flight for your string to slide into.
How to Fly:
1) Wrap a piece of string round your hand.
2) Wrap the other end round the notch.
3) Hold the end of the arrow at the end of the arrow( make sure the cord is tight)
4) Throw the arrow like a javelin.
5) The string should multiply your throw and the arrow will go about 100 metres.
7) The string should stay in your hand and come off the arrow.
